EMBRACING SUFFERING: A PATH TO TRUE FREEDOM

Through witnessing my daughter’s suffering from anxiety and depression, I have come to realize that being truly free means not only to let go of suffering, but also to dive deep into it and embrace it. If my spiritual journey makes me insensitive to the suffering of others, then I am completely missing the point.

Genuine compassion for the suffering of others, as well as detachment, is essential. Without both, I would become blinded by my spiritual ego (who wants to be the one who eradicates suffering) and will end up creating more suffering in the world. It is the combination of both being fully involved, and being detached that allows us to share in the suffering and the light of the world.

When we see that all is one, and that those suffering are simply ourselves on a different path, we can overcome this paradox to feel both detachment and infinite compassion. This understanding brings us to a place of peace and freedom, where we can know, and make everything be alright.

I wish us all a peace so deep that we can hear and know our true divinity in loving silence.
